Would you like to join our choir for a beautiful musical moment within our production of A Christmas Carol at the Playhouse? The brilliant Spymonkey theatre company are collaborating us to create a comedy and musical version of the play at the Playhouse this Christmas. Ed Gaughan is directing and is himself a fantastic musician, therefore music is a big part of the production and there will be a three piece band playing live throughout.

At the end of Act One, the cast – accompanied by the band – will sing a live version of a Radiohead song. For this moment Ed would like them to be joined by (at least) a 20 piece choir who will fill the auditorium. It will be a beautiful and special moment.

It is a fantastic opportunity to work with some wonderful actors and musicians. You can either join as individuals or a full group. If you would like to talk further please get in touch by emailing Sarah, our Company Manager, [email protected] or by calling on 07725956323.

The choir will be directed by James Fortune, a fantastic composer who’s worked on many of our in-house productions with Associate Director Nick Bagnall: A Clockwork Orange and The Big I Am (Everyman Company 2018 season); The Conquest of the South Pole and Romeo & Juliet (Everyman Company 2017 season); The Two Gentlemen of Verona (Everyman & Shakespeare’s Globe); The Odyssey: Missing Presumed Dead (Everyman / UK Tour) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Everyman). He has worked extensively (amongst other theatres) at Shakespeare’s Globe, too. And he also created the hugely successful A cappella production of The Magnets.

This is not a paid position but we can offer expenses for getting to and from the theatre for rehearsal and performances (either in mileage or a return bus/train fare). Although it’s not paid, it is a lovely opportunity to perform at the Playhouse to a large audience and to work with some fantastically talented people.

We will work with two teams of 20 on alternate rotas so as not to expect everyone to be available for each show, this works out as 18 shows for each team (please see teams A and B dates in the PDF schedule here).

The show runs from Saturday 8 December 2018 until Saturday 12 January 2019. There will be two rehearsal dates; Friday 30 November and Saturday 1 December and it would be essential to attend those if you would like to be in the production. Following that, it is also important to be available for the tech sessions and dress rehearsals as in the schedule here. We would need commitment to the dates as much as possible although we understand you would need to work this around your courses, jobs and lives so if you would like to be involved but have some concerns over availability for all of the rota’d shows then please get in touch anyway as we might be able to make it work for you by mixing up teams or adding a team C.

For the shows you will need to arrive to the theatre for 7pm (or 1pm/1.30pm/5pm for matinees and twilights - see the schedule here) and can leave at the interval which will be approximately 1.5hours after your arrival (we will know more detail and exact timings nearer our opening date).

If you would like to be involved please email and indicate as much as you can which performance dates would suit you best. Please get in touch by emailing Sarah, our Company Manager, [email protected] or by calling on 07725956323.

I really look forward to hearing from you and hope you can join us for this wonderful show.

Best wishes,

Sarah Lewis
