Working Together with The Unity to Support Local Creatives

22 February 2021

We are pleased to announce we’ve teamed up with our friends at The Unity to benefit local creative talent, supporting their Open Call for artists. Over the weekend, The Unity smashed their Crowdfunder target and we were only too happy to play our part, as it furthers our commitment to Liverpool’s artists.

These difficult times have shown us more than ever how we are stronger together, and it is wonderful to be teaming up with our friends at The Unity to benefit local creatives. Through working collaboratively, our theatres are able to effectively bring together our resources and in-house expertise to better meet the needs of Liverpool talent artistically, financially and through wellbeing and practical support.

Mark Da Vanzo, CEO, explained why the theatres chose to support The Unity: “It is so important, especially now, that we come together to champion and help develop emerging artists. There is a wealth of creativity in Merseyside that deserves to be celebrated and seen. We commend the Unity on this brilliant initiative and are delighted to be involved.

Francesca Peschier, New Works Associate added: “Part of our commitment to talent development and artistic innovation includes a concentration on diversity, represented here in our focus on supporting Call Out artists from under-represented groups. Speaking personally, I could not be more excited to be working with The Unity whose commitment and care to their artists has been industry leading, especially during the hard times the pandemic has presented. I can't wait to see the work that’s out there and meet new artists ready to shake up the stories our city has to tell.

Artists who previously applied for the Open Call need not resubmit their application as The Unity panel are already in the process of shortlisting from those submitted in December.
