Top Girls // Spotlight on Nadia Anim

Nadia Anim

Young Everyman Playhouse graduate Nadia Anim is back at the Everyman, starring in Top Girls as Lady Nijo / Kit. As well as YEP shows, Nadia has previously been on the main stage in Our Town Needs a Nandos in 2022 and Paint Your Wagon, A Clockwork Orange and The Big I Am as part of the 2018 Everyman Company.

We caught up with Nadia before Top Girls opens at the Everyman in March to hear about how she feels about being a part of the cast for the 40th anniversary production of Caryl Churchill’s celebrated play.

Hi Nadia! What have you been up to since graduating from YEP?
Since graduating, I've started my career as a theatre maker exploring other roles such as writing and producing too.

What did YEP teach you?
YEP taught me a lot about storytelling and the importance of telling the truth. There are a few things that were reminders from Matt, Tomo and Grace that I use all the time in my practice now. The importance of community is also something that I seek to contribute to as a theatre maker.

How do you feel about being part of Top Girls?
Very excited, naturally. It's an iconic play, so it’s an honour. I've wanted to do this particular play for some time now, so it feels amazing that I'm actually doing it!

Who would be your dream dinner guests?
In this moment in time, these are my top three picks for dinner guests - Debbie Reynolds, Saloma and Khadīja bint Khuwaylid.

How would you define a Top Girl?
I would define a top girl as someone who is skilled and knows how to navigate the situations they are handed. But my personal vision of a Top Girl is the cool older girl you want to be like when you're all grown up.

Do you have a Top Girl in your life? Who is she?
It was really hard to pick one Top Girl, so I'm going to go with the woman that has been literally everything - Barbara Millicent Roberts a.k.a Barbie.

Would you be able to recommend a book, song, or movie about being a Top Girl?
From the top of my head, "Wannabe" by Itzy

Would you mind sharing with the audience a line from the script?
"I'm not a cheerful person, Marlene. I just laugh a lot"

Top Girls is at the Everyman Fri 3 Mar to Sat 25 Mar 2023, click here for more information and to book.
