Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse theatres have announced their Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto Robin Hood is postponed until Christmas 2021, as the impact of COVID-19 means the theatres cannot present the popular panto in an economically viable way.

In a joint statement Mark Da Vanzo and Gemma Bodinetz, chief executive and artistic director of Liverpool and Merseyside Theatres Trust, said:

“It’s with a heavy heart that we’re having to postpone this year’s panto Robin Hood until next year.

“This not a decision we wanted to make and it is one that we have not taken lightly, knowing what it means to us and to you.

“The Everyman Rock ‘n’ Roll panto is a Christmas institution in Liverpool and we like to think it’s the best in the land, nay universe. As soon as one show finishes, we’re starting work on the next and this year was no exception. The script is in development, designs begun, musical numbers explored and actors met. However, as we all know, this is an exceptional year, for all the wrong reasons.

“Due to COVID-19 and our ongoing extended closure, this year is financially tough, and whilst we believe we can survive, we can’t afford to take any risks that might jeopardise our theatres for the future.

“Like many theatres across the country, with social distancing in place it makes it impossible to present the show you know and love in an economically viable way.

“Whilst we know that this news will be a huge disappointment, we want to reassure you that the Rock ‘n’ Roll panto will return!

“Robin Hood will be postponed to next year and current sold or reserved tickets will be moved into the equivalent performance for 2021-22.

“In the meantime, we’re working on ideas for creating a more modest but equally magical Everyman & Playhouse Christmas experience for families and friends to enjoy and will share our plans as soon as we can.”

Panto bookers will be contacted via email with details on their booking. For more information and FAQs on this year’s panto postponement, visit our Robin Hood FAQs page.
