Cherry Jezebel cast announcement

13 January 2022

Last year, we were thrilled to announce that Jonathan Larkin's Cherry Jezebel would make it's full stage debut with us in March, directed by James Baker. After an open casting call with Pearson Casting, we are pleased to say that we have our cast! Let us introduce you to these fabulous charatcers, and the actors who will be playing them.

The show features scouse drag icon Cherry Brandy - a legend in her living room. She’s an icon in public, but when the music stops and the lights come up the scars are getting harder to hide beneath the war paint. Playing Cherry will be Mickey Jones. Mickey is returning to the Everyman, after appearing in Our Lady of Blundellsands in September. He was a member of the Everyman Youth Theatre for many years, graduating to Radio 4 plays and theatre tours. He has even had a little stint at the Royal National Theatre. He’s also appeared in few (axed) tv shows, including Brookside, Family Affairs, Lovejoy and The Bill. But most of his career has been taken up with directing. As well as making short films, Mickey is a regular director on Coronation Street, Eastenders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks.

Cherry's lifelong best friend Heidi Handjob/Harlow has been desperately seeking someone – and the search is over. She’s found love and she’s found herself. It’s time to hang up the drag and dare to live her truth. Heidi will be played by Mariah Louca, who has performed in theatres internationally, from Adelaide Festival to Belfast's Lyric Theatre. She has also performed on television shows, including Eastenders, Casualty and Doctors for the BBC. For film, her work includes Re-displacementCherry Jezebel marks Mariah’s Everyman debut and she is thrilled to be bringing this show to Liverpool audiences this season.

And of course there is Pearl Reckless - a work of art on socials and a hot mess IRL, they’re sticking two fingers up to the patriarchy and looking for likes in the most dangerous places. Playing Pearl is Stefan Race. Stefan has performed across film (Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore; The Batman) and stage (Alice in Wonderland; The Man Will Kill Us All; Twelfth Night).

And finally, there's Mo - a Mathew Street meat-head til the sixth pint, and then Mo’s masc mask drops quicker than his chinos. Mo will be played by George Jones. George graduated from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2019 and has since performed in plays at Theatre503, Arcola Theatre, The White Bear and, most recently, Royal Court Liverpool in Homebaked: the Musical.

Cherry Jezebel will make its full stage debut at the Everyman from 8-26 March 2022. Tickets are available from £10-£40. Book now.
