A Seat for Pete

Saturday 29th October 2022

Pete Postlethwaite (1946-2011), the Hollywood actor who Stephen Spielberg declared to be “the best actor in the world” started his career in the Everyman Company in 1974.

He worked alongside Bill NighyJulie WaltersGeorge Costigan and Anthony Sher under the artistic direction of Alan Dossor. His list of film, TV and theatre credits include work with the RSC, In The Name of the Father, The Usual Suspects, Jurassic Park 2 and received an Oscar nomination for his role in In the Name of the Father.

Our theatres are fiercely proud of our association with Pete, who returned to both mainstages in Scaramouche Jones (2003) and King Lear (2008).

We were touched when Pete’s family approached us with a donation to name a seat in his memory and delighted when they made their pilgrimage back to the Everyman to see it in situ last Saturday. And the quote they chose? From King Lear: “Who is it that can tell me who I am?
