March for the Arts

March for the Arts is a collective dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of the arts. They champion those who work in arts industries and campaign positively about the power of the arts to improve lives.

The theatre world is a precious ecology, with freelancers making up 70% of the workforce. When the pandemic began, a small team of theatre professionals got together to create March for the Arts. At first, the project was a physical demonstration to campaign for fair funding, but it soon became clear that a more long-term plan was needed.

We have been supporting them where possible since they began, as our involvement with the Fuel Freelance Taskforce demonstrated to us how important it is for organisations to support the freelancers that make our industry possible, both in house and in supporting their autonomy to organise, campaign and hold institutions to account.
