Helen-Blakeman

Trustee

Helen is a BAFTA and International Emmy Award winning writer (which she won for her TV film Dustbin Baby). Helen writes for TV, film and theatre; currently the creator, lead writer and associate producer of the BAFTA nominated CBBC series Hetty Feather – now in its fifth series.

Helen also wrote the controversial film Pleasureland for Kudos/Channel 4 (BAFTA, RTS nomination), has scripted numerous episodes of Hollyoaks (Lime Pictures/C4), as well as the much-loved Call the Midwife

Helen’s first play, Caravan, was staged at the Bush Theatre, London, directed by Gemma Bodinetz, with a subsequent production here at the Everyman. Her play, The Morris, was commissioned by the Everyman and staged in 2005.

From Liverpool, Helen’s first-ever paid employment was as an usher at the Everyman and she credits much of what she learned about theatre from those days.

Helen is also Chair of the BAFTA Children’s Committee and a member of the BAFTA Council and is a regular volunteer for the Whitechapel Centre.
