Eclipse Theatre

Exceptional storytelling & new work from Britain’s foremost Black-led touring company

Eclipse is a beacon for Black artists and theatre makers outside of London. Led by Artistic Director Dawn Walton and based in Sheffield, their work is all about using the Black* British experience to create new work, enriching the stories shared with theatre audiences nationwide and to diversify those audiences.

We support their ethos and have hugely enjoyed working with Eclipse over the years, bringing their work to the Everyman (The Hounding Of David Oluwale), Playhouse (A Raisin in the Sun, Mother Courage and Her Children) and the Playhouse Studio (Sizwe Banzi is Dead). Back in 2004, Dawn Walton also directed our production of Urban Legend at the Everyman.

In recent years, Eclipse has spearheaded two unique national and international movements: Revolution Mix (delivering new Black British productions in theatre, film and radio) and Slate (supporting Black artists in the North to work locally, nationally and internationally). The first Revolution Mix story, Black Men Walking, was a huge success nationally and enjoyed a sell-out run at the Unity theatre in 2018.

*To Eclipse, Black includes anyone who is marginalized for their race or ethnicity.
