Xīn Nián Kuài Lè! 新年快乐 Happy Chinese New Year!
In 2021 we celebrated Chinese New Year online with a selection of workshops and creative sessions held online over Zoom.
Activities were created in partnership with Liverpool Confucius Institute, Liverpool University and supported by Culture Liverpool.

- Join us in making decorations and find out how we celebrate Chinese New Year. You will need scissors and paper/card (e.g red) and pens (e.g. black/gold)

- Discover the origins of Chinese New Year (Spring Festival), how to celebrate and learn some New Year greetings.

- Let's learn a traditional Chinese Fan Dance
- Join us in learning steps and movements to dance a Chinese fan dance. Materials needed: 2 long silk scarves or ribbons.

- Storytelling: Chinese Zodiac
- Join us for a story about the Chinese zodiac and discover what your zodiac animal is.

- Let’s do Calligraphy
- Join us in making 'Chunlian' banners with calligraphy to celebrate Spring Festival. Materials needed: paper (red is the best), paint/ink (e.g. black/gold) and a paintbrush.

- Let’s do traditional Chinese painting
- Join us to create a beautiful traditional Chinese painting step by step. Materials needed: paper (rice paper is best), paint/ink (black and colours), paintbrush, palette/plate.

- Learn the latest street moves Chinese style! Post your routine on social media at #CNYLiverpool.

- Let’s discover Rap Chinese-style
- Learn how to rap Chinese style and find out and how Chinese culture influences and impacts style with members of the University of Liverpool Rap Society, led by Ted Allpress. Pre-recorded rap will include Chinese beats and mix Mandarin and English.
