Spreading joy with Life Rooms

11 December 2020

A group of staff volunteers from the Everyman & Playhouse will join up with Mersey Care’s Life Rooms team, to bring some Christmas cheer to members of our community this festive season.

From Sunday 13 December and for the 12 days leading up to Christmas, Mr Christmas, Fairy Snowflake and Melody Christmas will embark on a quest to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas with people across Liverpool.

Staff volunteers will visit three destinations a day for 12 days, performing for Life Rooms service users, organisations tackling homelessness, NHS teams of staff & carers, and refugee & asylum seeker groups.

The aim is to spread some yuletide joy to those who need it most to improve people’s wellbeing, performing socially distanced on the doorsteps of people who have been identified by Mersey Care staff as deserving of a treat.

Each visit is filled with singing, dancing, storytelling and, of course no Christmas visit would be complete without a festive gift!

The 12 days initiative is supported by Liverpool City Council and Culture Liverpool. All performances will be socially distanced and to the most up-to-date health and safety.

Tackling loneliness

The National Office for Statistics recorded approximately 2.6 million people as 'chronically lonely' during the last lockdown. This would equate to at least 22,500 people in Liverpool. Loneliness is a burden that nobody should have to bear.

Visit the NHS website for information on what you can do if you’re feeling lonely.
