What's on

2016 Projects

We’re about to embark on a brave new phase in our development: a radical change that will secure the future of our theatres and allow us to thrive. With the support of Arts Council England, we have undertaken an intensive planning process to reimagine the Everyman and Playhouse for the future. The result is a new five year plan that will combine artistic inspiration with financial resilience; dazzling quality with generous humanity; deep roots in our time and place with readiness for the future.

The plan consists of three pillars that support and are supported by an income strategy focused on audience growth, commercial income and evolution of our fundraising:

  • The creation of an Everyman Company of actors that will make work with powerful local resonance and immediacy
  • Playhouse Residencies that will provide a hub for the finest national and international producers
  • A unique and profound integration of YEP, our youth programme, into every aspect of our work

This transformation progress requires investment now in order that it will be self-supporting by 2020 and we are fortunate to have secured early commitment from a number of trusts, foundations and individual donors. Overall, we need to raise £600,000 and we’re actively seeking both unrestricted funds and ‘project’ funds for each discrete aspect of the new model, above.

Through this evolutionary and revolutionary change, we aim not only to strengthen our own organisation, but also to benefit the wider arts ecology, and to nurture those who will make and enjoy theatre for many decades to come. We hope you will support this vision.

To discuss how you might lend your support, please contact Sarah Randell, Head of Development, on 0151 706 9115.

The Everyman Company

The Everyman will become home to a Company of actors, performing work that speaks to our city-region and creating a powerful bond with audiences. As well as creating extraordinary and responsive work on stage, the Company will connect with community groups; help train Young Everyman Playhouse, support marketing and fundraising and create a strong and unique signature for the Everyman. The Company will make a powerful statement about the value of placing multiple voices on stage, with an equal gender balance and a high degree of cultural diversity. Productions will be directed by our Artistic and Associate directors, whose knowledge of the city will support a bespoke programme, commissioned and developed with our audiences’ needs at heart. As has been the case with previous ensemble companies – not least the famous Everyman companies of the 1970s – this group of actors will build a powerful bond with audiences, fostering increased loyalty and consequently lifting our Box Office revenues.

Playhouse Residencies

By creating a hub for Residencies that may last a number of weeks, we will enable a selection of the finest national and international producing companies to form bonds with our audiences, community, young people and artists, creating a profound dialogue with Liverpool. These companies will be afforded time for research and development, access to one of the finest technical teams in the country and an inspirational connection with diverse audiences. By working with fewer companies (8-10 each year), we will streamline our own resourcing, and be able to give touring companies a rare and precious base where they are guaranteed an audience and the full support of our artistic, technical and marketing teams.

Young Everyman Playhouse (YEP)

Our award-winning work with young people will become even more deeply integrated, with the programme expanding to include traineeships in producing, technical theatre, acting and communications. Exceptional skills development will include the Everyman Company working with YEP members, and the traineeships will guide young people from YEP into employment.
