Welcome back to your new and improved Playhouse Studio! And what better way to christen the space than with a selection of exciting New Work from our 19/20 Playwrights’ Programme.  Our writers have been hard at work, collaborating with local professional actors and directors to present to you these 20 minute extracts and shorts from plays they have developed since the end of the course, culminating in showcases over four nights.

- Wednesday 15 September -
Passing Fair by Joe Ramsden
Parabellum by Abigail McKenzie

- Thursday 16 September -
Swim by Ian Nenna
Dollars and Sense by Naomi Sumner
The Big Bad by Gemma Langford

- Friday 17 September -
Sweetwata by Addae G
The Anchoress by Theresa Pine

- Saturday 18 September -
Working by Ben Keyworth
The Karaoke League by Jess Ellis

Writers from the our 2019 showcase included Alice Bunker-Whitney (A Greasy Spoon) Leianna Boodaghian (Weight of Repopulating a Nation) and Tom Kinney (A Heavenly Place to Die), whose extracts have since grown into full plays that you can see this year as part of The Unity’s open Call. It also featured work from Majid Mehdizadeh whose one man show Y'MAM garnered 4 and 5 stars at the Everyman in June this year.

The Everyman and Playhouse New Works department are committed to scouting and nurturing new talent from the North West. Each year, up to ten writers are invited to join our Playwrights’ Programme, working closely with our New Works team to hone their playwriting skills and knowledge, with a view to write a full length stage play. Applications for the 2021/22 programme will open September 2021. For more information on the programme, please email [email protected]
