Season Highlights
Lost Lands “What does the environment mean to you and your neighbourhood?”
Four Corners involves all of Liverpool’s neighbourhoods and brings together residents, cultural organisations, artists, and the Liverpool City Council’s neighbourhood services team to create projects around the four corners of Liverpool, that culminate in an exhibition at the Bluecoat.
Lost Lands was an exciting performance project co-ordinated by the Everyman and Playhouse and written and performed by local residents of Vauxhall and Kirkdale along the locks of the Leeds/Liverpool Canal.
For the past four years, the Everyman and Playhouse has been working with residents in North Liverpool. Lost Lands, through imaginative storytelling and vibrant visuals, created new myths and legends based on the local environment, performed in the very spaces that inspired them on Saturday 18 July, in what was a magical site specific theatrical event.
12 people of all ages from across Vauxhall and Kirkdale worked with professional writers and theatre directors to create these new myths and legends about the area they live in - from the six-sided clock to the black church, the Kinny to the Vatican.
Lost Lands then became part of the Four Corners 2009 exhibition at the Bluecoat from 22-29 July, following the idea of the promenade performance event, showing a video of the site, photographs, stories, costumes and even the appearance of some of the performers themselves. To guide guests around the canalside, Liverpool artist James Munro designed a bespoke map depicting legends and myths. This map was also on show as part of the exhibition.
Spirits of the Stone For our Kirkby Community Production, the Theatre and Community Department worked in partnership with Knowsley Arts and Museums Service.
Following open auditions, the play was performed by a cast of 20 Kirkby residents aged from 14 to 83 on the Everyman stage on 17 & 18 April 2009.
Activities for Young People and Community Groups This season a programme of activities and projects is available for young people and community groups.
