These sessions focus on the production process and explore how the performance, design and technical elements of the show come together to realise the director’s interpretation of the text. The director of the production normally leads the session and where possible some of the cast. There is always an opportunity for students to ask questions. Sessions take place in the auditorium and a matinee performance of the production usually follows.

Theatre Tours
We offer tours of both the Everyman and Playhouse, which cover the history of the building, architecture, artistic work and technical facilities. Tours can be adapted to suit you specific educational needs.

Play Group
The Play Group is a group for people over 50 years of age. The group meets regularly for play readings, activities and visits to the theatre.

Talks

Talks by theatre staff on a range of aspects of theatre practice are available on request. Examples of these in the past have included ‘Theatre as a Business’, ‘Theatre History’, ‘Technical Theatre’, ‘Stage Management’. Please contact us with your requirements.

Master Classes and Workshops
We can arrange workshops and master classes tailored to your group’s specific needs by staff from our theatres or from industry specialists. Workshops linking to theatre productions are also available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer work experience placements?
Unfortunately we are unable to offer work experience placements to students. At present we don’t have a fully developed and supportive training programme in place. We are looking into ways of being able to offer a quality learning experience to students but are very much restricted by schedules and health and safety regulations.

Are there any adult drama/acting classes run by the theatre?
No, we do not run any classes at the theatre but we do have a programme of activities in support of the season with occasional workshops which are open to people of all ages. We also have an over 50’s play group which meet regularly for play readings and other activities throughout the season. Please contact the Theatre and Community department for more details. There are many amateur theatre groups in Merseyside which can be accessed via the internet.

Do you have a costume and makeup department?
We do not have a permanent costume department or store at either theatre. Costumes are occasionally made in-house but most costumes are either bought or hired for each show. Also we do not have a permanent make-up artist as actors generally do their own makeup nowadays unless it something very specialised.

Do we run summer holidays projects?
We occasionally run community projects during the summer holidays but do not run regular play schemes or summer schools.

Do we tour work to schools?
This is something we hope to be able to offer in the future.

Is there any opportunity for pupils/students to perform on the Everyman & Playhouse stages?
In 2003 we held a festival of young people’s performance which created an opportunity for several schools and youth groups to perform on the Everyman stage. We are hoping to be able to run a similar festival again in the future. If you are interested in receiving further information then please contact the Theatre and Community Department.

Do you offer any discount schemes to schools?
Schools receive a special student price ticket for all performances plus one free teacher’s seat for every 10 tickets booked.

Do we hire out the Everyman and Playhouse spaces?
On occasion we hire out the Everyman and Playhouse spaces. However, due to busy seasons of programmed work there are not many available slots and it can be expensive due to staffing requirements set out in our licence agreement.

Do you accept C.V.’s from actors?
No, all submissions must come from actors agents for specific parts in specific productions.

Do you hire out actors to other companies?
We do not have a company of permanently employed actors at either theatre. All actors have their own agents.
