The over-arching mission of the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse is to create theatre of the highest quality which is firmly rooted in our community, yet both national and international in scope and ambition.

Recent expansion has restored a vigorous creative heartbeat to the theatres, and we now have an unprecedented opportunity to become a powerhouse for creative excellence, artistic adventure and community involvement.

Creative energy is the spark that fires these theatres. The artistic vision which drives the organisation is what gives the theatres their identity, and puts Liverpool theatre firmly back on the national and international map.

Our programme combines an absolute commitment to the highest production values with a forward-looking approach to encouraging new talent. We aim to tap into the great reservoir of creativity that exists in Liverpool, and at the same time to extend our horizons both nationally and internationally.

The theatres’ role as a production engine enables us to inspire a new generation through youth and community activities; to provide writers and other theatre artists with a nurturing environment in which their work can flourish; to attract and engage an audience from all sectors of the community; to fulfil our duty as an employment resource by creating and sustaining new jobs; to reflect the cultural and social diversity of our community through the work on our stages and through our employment and training policies, and to regenerate the many skills and crafts which feed, and are fed by, the artistic programme.

We believe in collaboration, and work in a spirit of partnership with other arts organisations in the city, with artists and companies around the country and beyond, with the local community, and with our friends in the business and civic sectors.
