YOUNG ACTORS

Programme Outline

Each year our Young Actors take part in weekly skills sessions covering everything from storytelling to stage combat and gives members the opportunity to act, devise, improvise, and work on scripts from Shakespeare to new plays. They work with the YEP director and other professional guest directors to develop shows in their second term. The last term is the LAB season and is led by the Young People, who create their own work and then show their work in sharings at the end of the year.

First Term

Each September our Young Actors groups begin working on productions and sharings that will be performed later in the year. This first term focuses on skills development and will include improvisation, script work, devising, physical theatre and master classes form visiting theatre company’s and practitioners. Young Actors will also use some sessions for research to develop future shows. Other opportunities to perform with professional North West theatre companies will form part of this first term for Young Actors. This year groups have worked with Liverpool Lantern Company, Spike and High Hearted.

Second Term

From January to April the older Young Actors groups work solely on the creation, development, rehearsal and performance of their shows. These pieces will are performed to paying audiences either within the theatres or until the New Everyman opens at other venues around the city. This gives our Young Actors the opportunity to experience performing on a professional stage with the full technical and marketing support of the Everyman and Playhouse theatres.

Third Term

The final term of the Young Actors Programme in the LAB season and gives YEP members the opportunity to focus on work that they want to create and develop. This may be creating working on an existing script, collaborating with Young Writers, devising a small piece of physical theatre or working on a selection of monologues. This season culminates with a week of sharings where YEP members show their work to each other.
