Studio Playlist 1969-1996
On 20 October 1969 the small studio space on the second floor of the Liverpool Playhouse put on its first play - John Osborne's Look Back In Anger. From 1969 to 1996, produced alongside the programme of the main house, the Studio was the compact crucible for many a fledgling writer and performer, indeed, many of the UK's most celebrated theatre practitioners took their first steps as artists in this safe yet utterly daring space known as the ‘Playhouse Upstairs’.
The ‘official’ opening of the original studio was January 1972 with a double bill of C. P. Taylor’s Allergy and Howard Brenton’s Heads Up. By 1996 it had presented over 50 world premières.
